Heute – am 19. Mai – ging es in den Sapporo-Maruyama-Zoo 🇯🇵🐻❄️
Der Eingang vom Zuhause der Eisbären.
Es gibt insgesamt 5 – verschieden große – Außen- und Innengehege.
😍 Eisbär Lila, Lala & Licht 🇯🇵🐻❄️ 19.5.´26
Licht ist im März 2025 aus dem Hirakawa Zoo in Kagoshima in den Park gekommen. Er ist im Jahr 2013 in Adventure World geboren.
Lala (weiblich) ist im Jahr 1994 in Beppu Rakutenchi geboren.
Lila (weiblich) ist im Jahr 2014 im Maruyama Zoo geboren.

Lieber Jens!
Danke für Deine Infos und die Bilder der japanischen Eisbären. Zu den Anlagen in Japan habe ich schon geschrieben – die Bilder machen mich traurig – aber die sind nicht alles… Ich hoffe, dass die Bären geliebt und wertgeschätzt werden! Das ist das Wichtigste, dann kommt vielleicht auch bald eine Verbesserung ihrer Lebensumstände. Hier war das erste Mal etwas Gras zu sehen.

Lala ist nicht nur eine betagte Bärin sondern auch Mutter von 8 Babys.
Damit ist sie für japanische Verhältnisse der deutschen Eisbärin Vienna vergleichbar.

I think that my views on Polar Bear conditions in zoos have changed over time.
While it would be wonderful if all Polars could have the space they get in the parks in the UK I have seen for myself what a difference the keepers can make to the lives of zoo bears. This is much more important than the enclosure because Polars are highly intelligent and soon learn to enjoy a relationship that tests both them and their keepers. It is also the case that finding compatible bears of the same gender does help to keep them happy and healthy

Thank you for the lovely pictures and reports from Japan
After many years visiting Polars in zoos I think that the relationship between the Polars and their keepers may be more important than the type of enclosure. Because they are so intelligent Polars thrive when they can test their keepers and the keepers can do things to keep them occupied and learning. It also helps to put bears of the same gender together as this also keeps them happy and healthy.
