4.11.2026 – Photos by Sergej Iltjakov and Arkadi Laptenko
Today I want to present the gorgeous Kai in the Novosibirsk Zoo. He sure is a very handsome polar bear male!
It’s been snowing in Novosibirsk and, of course, Kai loved to relax and lay on the soft white stuff. Sergej took a couple of photos of him.
The dreams are ‘dreamier’ on the snow!
The following photos are taken by Arkadi earlier this Autumn.
Kai was born in December 2004 in St Petersburg, Russia. He moved to Novosibirsk in June 2008.
He still lives in Novosibirsk with his female companion Gerda. Together this couple has seven off springs.
2013 Shilka Moved to a zoo in Japan (Tennoji Zoo in Osaka).
2015 Rostik Was later transferred to a zoo in China (Qingdao).
2018 Nordi & Shaina, twins. Nordi remained in Novosibirsk, whilst Shaina moved to Izhevsk Zoo in Russia.
2023 Belka & Strelka, twins born on Valentine’s Day. They are still living at Novosibirsk Zoo.
2025 Umka, born on 7 December 2025. He’s still staying with mama Gerda.
I have often wondered why polar bears in Russian zoos always have such white and fluffy furs.
Is it the food …
Wow! This fish sure is polar bear size!
… or maybe the long Winters with lots of snow are the reasons …. Kai is hoping there will be snow flakes dancing in the air soon!
Hello folks! Some of you think that adult polar bears don’t play so much but you’re wrong!
Just watch these photos! The white barrel is one of my favourites.
Of course, I like all my toys.
This one used to be a pylon but because I’m a skilful handyman I remade it!
Please, allow yourselves to give me a big hand – I’m listening! 🙂
This is an open beret! Maybe not so warm but very elegant!
Thank you for watching!

So ein schöner Kai,alles Liebe für dich! 💓🥰
