On November 27th 2024, Sznyezsana, the 11 year old female polar bear of the Nyíregyháa Zoo, gave birth to two healthy cubs. Since we have placed cameras in the polar bear caves, we were able to capture the birth of the two polar bears and their development in the past 11 weeks.
We kept the news a secret, because the cubs were very underdeveloped at birth and the first three months are critical in their survival. By now, they are very active in their cave and we hope they will continue to develop so they can leave the cave with their mother in the next 1-2 weeks, then our visitors can view them as well.
In the meantime, we have created a two minute compilation video of the moment of their birth, until they are 11 weeks old. Every day, we plan to post a few minutes of the previous day’s camera images so that those interested can follow the development of the polar bear cubs day by day.
