Jimmy’s Farm is located in the south-east of England near Ipswich and is the new home of polar bear Ewa, recently rescued from the Orsa Predator Park in Sweden. It is also home to many other animals including: camels, tapir, zebra, capybara, mara, llama, barbary macaques, racoons, crocodiles, goats, ducks and many more.
Ewa lives in an area named ‘The Lost Lands of the Tundra’ and it gives her access to 2 enclosures. To the left of the main housing pen is enclosure 1, this is the largest and has 2 deep pools.
On the right is another large enclosure but this is home to Ewa’s neighbours……12 beautiful Arctic Wolves. Ewa actually spent quite a lot of time just sitting by the fence observing them.
In front of the wolves is Ewa’s 2nd enclosure, this has another good sized pool and stretches up to a large wood. Work has already begun that will eventually give shared access to both Ewa and the wolves. I understand that the wood will also become home to a Brown Bear Diego also rescued from the Orsa Predator Park.
One thing I struggled with was the fact that there was a railway line running along the back of these enclosures. It was approximately 20 metres away and I lost count of the number of both passenger & container trains that passed in the first hour.
I must add that this didn’t seem to bother Ewa or the wolves who had obviously become used to it.
On the day of my visit, Ewa wasn’t very active and I couldn’t help feeling that she looked a little sad…..after all, Miki her 2 year old daughter hadn’t survived the journey.
Hopefully, Jimmy’s Farm will be able to take in another polar bear in the future which will be company and a playmate for Ewa.
