Although Polar Bears are my great passion, there are many beautiful animals to see at Yorkshire Wildlife Park (YWP). The Okapis certainly are. The warmer weather brought them out to graze together.
The longer necked giraffes were also enjoying the weather and a tasty snack.
Other animals also prefer the warm weather. YWP has two black rhinos. Jasper was born in 2015 in the Czech Republic while Makibo was born in 2019 in Magdeburg. There are hopes that a baby rhino may come.
I was fortunate to be given a room in the hotel overlooking the back of the Maned Wolf enclosure . In the early morning I was able to watch the family hunting small rodents in the long grass as they would in their native Argentina. In the evening there was much playing in and around their well hidden den.
They were too far away to photo on my phone but here are some shots at the front of their enclosure.
Flocke’s boys, Indy and Yuma continue to grow. Indy is the bigger of the two. Because Sisu and Nobby both want to “get close” to Indy, he was in the third enclosure with his brother.
Finally some rather distant phone photo shots of Hamish and Luka in the water. The two get along despite being very different characters. Luka is much calmer and likes to chill whereas Hamish is always keen for rough and tumble.
