Martina has visited Tiergarten Schönbrunn in Vienna and met two handsome male polar bears there – Nanuq and Ranzo.
Nanuq
Ranzo
Because there are so many Nanuqs in different zoos (with slightly different spelling) I thought a little presentation is needed.
Nanuq was born in 2007 in Vienna but has spent many years in other zoos. 2010-2019 his home was Erlebniszoo Hannover, after that 2019-2023 he lived in Nuremberg. In May 2023 he returned home to Vienna.
Mr Nanuq has an interesting colouring in his fur.

Nanuq isn’t any youngster anymore so nice naps are often on his schedule.
A little presentation of Ranzo, too
Ranzo was born 18.11.2011 in Ranua. He’s the first polar bear ever born in Finland! The parents are Venus and Manasse. Since May 2014 Ranzo lives in Schönbrunn in Vienna. He has fathered one cub – Finja who now lives in Nuremberg.
I’m glad to see ‘my’ Ranzo looking so healthy and handsome.
Ranzo looks very much like his father Manasse.
There’s even some likeness to little brother Sisu in Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
