5.7.2026 – Photos by Jessie Webb, SpreewaldMarion and Petra Ballon

This time I want to show you photos of three photographers that were very active during the ‘Knut aera’. These photos haven’t been publish in this Magazine before.

I guess we all remember how much Knut loved to play with his jute sack.

Maybe he wanted to be incognito sometimes …. 🙂

Of course, he liked even his other toys. Ball games with the visitors were always great fun.

Two faces – first a black-and-white-look …

…. and then after a swim look.

Knut used to move plants around his enclosure and his ‘gardening’ made his home much greener. 🙂

Knut certainly didn’t like lettuce so I think this green thing was returned to sender directly after Petra took this photo! 🙂

  2. Thanks for these vintage photos. They are beautiful, and amusing as well, for Knut was a very fun loving bear. We can laugh but still be so sad that he went away so soon.

  3. Dear Mervi!
If one followed Knut’s development from the very beginning and visited him regularly, one simply had to love him. These pictures show our dear bear in all facets of his personality and just how lovable he was.
Thank you for these wonderful and precious memories!

    Hugs
    Anke

  4. Vielen Dank für die schönen Fotogrüße aus der “wunderbaren Zeit”, die wir mit Knut erleben durften…🐻‍❄️💝
Die Fotos schaue ich mit Freude und auch mit Wehmut an…🐻‍❄️💖

  5. Dear Mervi,
Ah yes, Knut and his creative antics with the jute sack: sometimes as a fashionable headdress, for cuddling or grooming – he always came up with something new to do with it. His masterful ball-playing remains just as unforgettable as his aversion to salad.
Many thanks for the lovely collection from Doris Webb, Spreewaldmarion and Petra!

Those wonderful times with Knut remain unique, as does the sadness at his untimely passing!
    Best wishes,
    Britta-Gudrun
Hi Judy, it’s lovely to see you posting here

  6. Dear Mervi
The close up of Knut’s head and face show how much he inherited from his two very special parents, Tosca and Lars. His playfulness was definitely from Tosca but his gentleness was very much from Lars.
Male Polar Bears are much more fragile than the she bears and it is strange to think that had he lived Knut would already be an old bear.
His story like all fairy tales is both sad and happy. These photos allow us to smile again.

  7. Liebe Mervi!

Vielen Dank für diese schönen, bisher noch unveröffentlichten Fotos!
Einfach bezaubernd. Wir werden nie vergessen, wie besonders unser Knut war. ❤️🐻‍❄️❤️
